Ingredients and supplies

  • 100 g yellow split peas
  • 100 gr black split mung bean
  • 50 g orange lentils
  • 2 large onions
  • 1.5 tbsp ginger
  • 50 g coriander (fresh)
  • 2 green peppers
  • 1 tbsp cumin seeds
  • half tsp asafoetida
  • 3 tsp salt (to taste)
  • oil for frying

Prep-work

I used three different beans/lentils but you can also choose just 1 type.

Soak them in water for at least 2 hours, or overnight.

Preparation

  • Keep some of the soaked lentils aside, we will add them later but they give the pakoras a bit more bite.
  • Put the soaked beans/lentils in a blender add green chilli, ginger, cumin seeds, asafoetida and salt.
  • Puree until smooth.
  • Put this mass in a bowl
  • add the reserved beans/lentils to the mixture
  • add chopped onions and coriander
  • Mix well again.

Heat a generous amount of oil in a wok/pan.

Roll the balls and fry them lightly brown in the oil.

Delicious with peanut chutney or coriander/mint chutney (Raita).
