Ingredients and supplies

  • 250 g yellow split peas
  • 1 onion
  • 3 cloves of garlic
  • 3 cm ginger
  • 3 tomatoes or a can of diced tomatoes
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp turmeric
  • 1 tbsp masala (curry powder)
  • salt to taste
  • 1 tbsp cooking oil

Prep-work

Peel and cut the onion into small pieces.

Peel and grate the ginger.

Peel and grate the garlic.

Cut the tomato into small pieces

Preparation

I soak the split peas beforehand, but that is not necessary.

Boil the split peas for 30 minutes until done.

Take a pea between your fingers, if it falls apart the peas are done.

Fry the onion until translucent.

Add garlic and ginger.

Add the masala, chili powder, salt and turmeric and fry briefly.

Add the split peas with the cooking water and let it evaporate for at least 10 minutes.

Garnish with fried onion and/or tomato.
