Croutons

Quantity: nice large container

Complexity: simple

Working time: 10 min

Total preparation: 20 min

Ingredients

  • Old bread,
as much as necessary (this preparation approx
    for 8 slices of bread)

  • 5 tbsp olive oil

  • 2 elephant cloves of garlic
    or 10 cloves of garlic

  • stock powder or salt

Preparation

This is a typical "from scratch" recipe and highly dependent on how many croutons you need. Better to make too much than too little because you can store it in a plastic bag to use again later in the week.

Preheat your oven (top heat) to 200 degrees.

Cut the bread into cubes.

Throw a good dash (5 tbsp) of olive oil into a large container (big enough to hold all the bread), press the garlic into it (and throw the leftovers in the garlic press into the oil as well.

Add a little stock powder (2 tsp).

Quickly toss the bread pieces in the garlic oil with your hands so that all pieces are covered with a little oil.

Place the bread on the oven baking tray and bake for 10 minutes (depending on your oven), turning the pieces once they are nicely browned. Keep a close eye and stay alert, because sometimes things go fast and they are burned! In that case, discard and start again at the top.

Delicious on a salad, in soup or to eat on its own.
